Night Feathers
Night Feathers is a series of archetypal image paintings channeled by artist Luna Van Arsdale through Meditation.
Fall of 2023. Acrylic on the Back of Stretched Canvas. 24” x 24”
“I come back to this piece, painted about a year ago to date, where three snakes holding a cosmic egg came through during a meditation with a friend. At the time, I’d paint only by candlelight and I wouldn’t be allowed to sleep until the vision had materialized.
I tend not to color in the lines of meaning of such visions until they have materialized, and even then I can wait months or never do so. For art is a mutable force whose meaning doesn’t only change with the perceiver, but with the times in which it is perceived. None the less, here is one interpretation I’ve played with: the egg symbolizes the seed/seat of cosmic consciousness, the eternal, with three serpents cradling this principle, symbolizing past, present, and future; akin to the Moirai, who personify birth, life, and death. The only snake who can you look in the face is that of the present. The past is denser, the future more diaphanous, the present somewhere between — revealing, becoming.
This painting rests on one of my altars, the one I most actively tend to, the one dedicated to creation. With each sit this piece continues to shape-shift, what a marvel how art continues to reveal threads that bound this lived experience.”
